Pineto close but Macerata prevailed once more

Pineto proved maybe a bit too soft and did not take advantage of a great opportunity.

Macerata were not having their best day, they were without Sebastian Swiderski and Matteo Martino was outstanding for Pineto,  but still the league leaders came away with it.

In the first two sets, Pineto built some good leads but proved unable to hang on to them. It was third time lucky at they finally led all the way to reopen the game in the third set. With the momentum they also conquered the fourth but in the tie-break, Macerata finally seemed to remember who they were. Still, Pineto did not get there to surrender that easily. They fought till the end, they even led 11-9 and were tied at 14. Then there is only the big disappointment of 4 match points failed to be converted left.

Fef� De Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Pineto is a team that has to be faced with the right concentration otherwise they can make it really difficult. We literally hanged on a game, in  which we missed easy points in attack. 2008 is ending with a group that is improving and creating its own identity”.

Marco Fabroni (Framasil Pineto): “We could have got something more out of it, but what matters most is that we had a good game. We had finished the first leg really poorly, without energy, without character. Tonight we had all of it back. Our dig was particularly fine and we blocked a lot of balls. The energy shown tonight against the league leaders is the one we’ll need in the future. It looked as though we had lost this energy, it’s not the case and that’s good news”.
