The 12th round of the Serie A1 led to yet another change at the top of the league table. All eyes were on the matchup between Treviso and Trento and, at the end of a hard fought game, Kaziyiski and co had the better 3-1. 24-22 ahead, Treviso could even have sealed it a set sooner. This represents a crucial win for the team, for the Italian Cup too. On the negative side, the hosts lost Stefan Hubner who injured his right ankle.

Macerata took full advantage of Trento’s defeat, beating Montichiari at the tie-break in a game that had the fans holding their breath right till the end. Another game that finished at the fifth set was Verona vs Piacenza. Trailed 2-0, the hosts still managed to grab a point out of the game. The victory went to Lorenzetti’s team, who was without Hristo Zlatanov.

There were three points for Cuneo. Prandi’s boys registered a straight set win over Martina Franca, as Wout Wijmans was MVP of the game.

At the bottom of the table,  Forli and Padova gathered some important points. Piero Molducci’s boys won 3-1 away at Modena, while Perazzolo and co took a crucial point out of its encounter in Vibo Valentia.

Marco Bonitta (Stamplast Martina Franca): “Our game was basically over at 22-20 in the first set, then we lost it completely. Unfortunately, it’s not a technical but mental problem, because, in the gym, in spite of being just 9 or 10, we work well. It’s like all of a sudden we had turned the light off, we lose our way. Hopefully we’ll find a better psycho-physical balance in the return games”.

Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We ran the risk of losing the first set but their mistake put us right back on track. Then in the second, we got off to a good start and we took care of the five point lead we had built. In the third, we struggled a bit like in the first but in the end of the set, we did well to find a way to finish. I’m satisfied because we have found consistency in our game and results”.

Marcus Popp (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We woke up too late, but we managed to tie the game. In the end, they won thanks to their serve. We’ve learned from this game that we have to keep fighting all the time, on every ball, that is the attitude that brings points and victories”.

Novica Bjelica (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “With such a changed line up and without starters like Zlatanov, a great team performance is needed to win a game. Today, we had ups and downs, but we made it, everyone did well. Everyone played its part, everyone had a hand in this win”.

Francesco Dall’Olio (Sisley Treviso): “In the third set, we put Trento back in it when the game was basically over. It was really dangerous but I’m really happy with the team’s reaction in the fourth set when we could have put our heads down. It didn’t happen, we pulled together and took the game. Our team is still hurt even if there are signs of improvement”.

Matej Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We made too many mistakes. Treviso had a great game, they played like a top team. Unfortunately, they often play like this against us. We have to look ahead, it happens to lose, all the more so in such a tough gym”.

Pietro Rinaldi (Trenkwalder Modena): “We just can’t understand what happened. Aftre the good performance and the big win against Macerata, we had to go back to the PalaPanini to win. Despite the fact that Forli is an excellent team, we know we are stronger and how important it is to win at home. We’ll try to figure out what went wrong, but it difficult to explain”.

Marco Loglisci (Yoga Forli): “In this gale, we finally managed to play good volleyball. We faded in the third, and Modena got better showing fighting spirit. I got in in that precise set and I tried to help the team and motivate the boys. It went OK, hopefully we’ll keep playing this way”.
