SERIE A1 TIM

Chasing points for the Italian Cup

In the Serie A1, there are some crucial points at stake for the Italian Cup, as very few games remain before the eight participants are decided. Two teams have already secured their place: Macerata and Trentino, but behind them there is still a lot to play for.

This 11th round will start with Modena versus Macerata on Saturday night, with Giani’s boys eager to turn things around against the league leaders.

Currently second, Trentino travels to Perugia. Stoychev has everyone fit apart from young Leonardi, while there is no-one missing for coach Di Pinto, who is looking to forget about last week’s home defeat.

After 10 days of training under the orders of new coach Dall’Olio, the fans can’t wait to see how Treviso will fare at Montichiari.

There will be some interesting clashes regarding the Italian Cup, with Piacenza vs Martina Franca and Verona against Pineto.

Cuneo will play host to a revived Padova team after its recent success. On Monday night in the PalaFiera gym, Forli will face Vibo Valentia in a match up between two teams of the bottom of the table.

TRENKWALDER MODENA – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA

Past encounter: 45 (19-16 Macerata).

Last game: In 2007/08, Final Eight TIM Cup, Quarter finals. Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Cimone Modena 3-0.

Record chaser: November’s MVP, Valerio Vermiglio, could reach the 1000 points, he only needs 3 points. Igor Omrcen is 3 aces away from 200 and Wytze Kooistra is 4 away from 100.

Dragan Travica (Trenkwalder Modena): “That’s a tough one for us: Macerata is top pf the league, it’s playing great volleyball and psychologically they’re aware of what they can do. Their status should be an extra motivation for us: we want to have a go because we know and see that we can improve. Despite the defeat in Martina Franca, we believe a bit more in ourselves now. We just need the results, it will be really hard but we’ll give it all”.

Valerio Vermiglio (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We’re facing a team that is very keen to emerge, in a PalaPanini gym that will be full pushing the home team. We’ll have to try to keep focused and maintain our level of play. If we do so, like we did in recent games, Macerata will surely be a tough team to overcome for Modena too”.

SERIE A2 TIM

Four unprecedented games

No less than four unprecedented encounters are scheduled on Sunday in the A2. Live on Snai Snat, there will be the big game of this 12th round between Bologna and Bassano. Despite recent defeats, Bologna are still the surprise team of this beginning of season and Gromadowski and co could be a threat for the league leaders. The match up between the Polish outside hitter and Bassano’s Vincenzo Tamburo should be interesting. More than a hundred fans will follow the team to Bologna.

Latina will try to bounce back at home, relying on their stars Giombini and Rosalba. The Spiker from Paola is 9 spikes away from the 3500 in career. Both Mantova and Isernia will fight it out for crucial points to qualify for the Italian Cup Final Eight. Mantova heads to Gioia del Colle without Nemec, while Isernia will host Roma.
