SERIE A1 TIM

YOGA FORLI E VIBO VALENTIA WIN AGAIN

RECORD SET FOR TRENTINO IN LEAGUE FINAL REMAKE

Forli and Vibo Valentia continued where they left off in the last round by registering their first home win. Molducci’s men created the upset against Cuneo, who seemed tired after the 6 sets played in Cannes in the European Cup. Vibo’s win over Martina Franca was even clearer. It looks as though the victory against Treviso last week was the necessary click for Raphael and co. Despite Perazzolo and Gato not hundred per cent fit, Padova caused trouble to Macerata in the first set. In the end, though, the intensity of Macerata’s serving increased and the leaders took the points.

In the remake of last season’s league final, Trentino came out winner over Piacenza, who played an awful first set, half asleep. The third set was extremely exciting: Led by Zlatanov, Piacenza got off to a better start but it the end, it was all tied. Trentino sealed the deal but it had to wait for its 15th match point! This 40-38 is the 4th ever longest set in the history of the Serie A1.

Francesco Biribanti (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “It’s as if we were constantly in a period of adjustment. We don’t manage to play at our best. We have to start working from Tuesday to get back on the right track”.

Jiri Kral (Antonveneta Padova): “We had to finish them off in the second. We were 22-18 ahead and we let them back in. Credit to Omrcen. In the third, there was only one team on court, then in the fourth, we were always close to Macerata. Shame, a point would have given us some confidence”.

Mirko Corsano (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We knew this game against Padova could be complicated. And indeed, it’s not been easy but it’s normal that a team still without a points gives everything it has. We did well to react after a poor first set. These are three golden points”.

Flavio Gulinelli (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “It’s been a great team effort, everyone worked to get the three points against a tough opponent like Martina Franca. I’m happy because I see the team playing at an excellent level and we are gathering some important wins”.

Radames Lattari (Stamplast Martina Franca): “We played a very nice and intense game in which Vibo made less mistakes, helped by a fantastic crowd. I think we paid the price for a few more mistakes”.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA – SISLEY TREVISO 1-3 (25-21; 22-25; 20-25; 23-25)

Goran Vujevic (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We lacked consistency, we did not manage to stand our ground and keep up with the high rhythm of the game. Our mistakes also contributed to our downfall. Shame we didn’t take any points”.

Stefan Hubner (Sisley Treviso): “Perugia took a lot of risks on the serve but we did well to wait for the right moments and take advantage of the opportunities that came our way”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – COPRA NORDMECCANICA PIACENZA 3-0 (25-15; 25-20; 40-38)

Itas Diatec Trentino:  Kaziyski 12, Segnalini (L), Birarelli 3, Zygadlo, Della Lunga 1, Vissotto Neves 17, Grbic 5, Winiarski 10, Garcia Pires Ribeiro, Bari (L), Piscopo 11. DNP De Paola, Stefanov. Coach. Stoytchev

Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza:  Insalata 5, Meoni, Marshall 15, Boninfante, Zlatanov 20, Durante (L), Bravo 12, Dunnes, Bjelica 5. DNP Grassano, Zingaro. Coach. Lorenzetti

Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “I had told my boys that the ones who would have made less mistakes would have won it. I was right. We are a good team because we adjusted to the many changes Piacenza made during the game. We played well no matter what they invented. Now, we want to get our injured players back. Dore Della Lunga has little worry on his knee, while Riad is started to train again but he’s not ready to play”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “We did not get into the rhythm in the first set and they dominated us. Our main regret is the second set because we let back in while we could have handled better certain situations. We felt more pressure in this game than in the others, we still have a few memories from the league final. But, just like last year, we are aware that we need to play extraordinarily to be able to win”.

SERIE A2 TIM

Bassano beaten but still top

There are no undefeated team left in the A2. Bassano was beaten for the first time this season at the tie-break at home against Isernia. There were other tie-break wins for Loreto at Città di Castello, Castelfidardo at Castellana Grotte and Gioia del Colle at Catania. All three team manged the incredible feat to get back from a 2-0 deficit. Latina won the derby against Roma, who had little support for its star Ivan Zaytsev. Santa Croce is gathering points again and stands right behind the league leaders. Mantova beat Bologna 3-0, which means Bassano is now sole leader.
