The white and black captain is nuts about this group: “It reminds me of the first Edilbasso”
It was 1989 when Davide Tovo wore Padova’s colours for the first time only 17. Since then, the middle blocker has come a long way, first time in the national team in 1993 and becoming one of this city’s team focal points.
Would you have expected to collect 11 points in 6 rounds, the same one made in the whole first leg last year?
“There is no need to hide behind a finger: noone would have though we were going to get such good results. We only lost 2 matches, Macerata and Treviso against the champions where we did well and could have done better. Having said so, Antonveneta Padova is a team who has fun playing. We never go on court to do our “little job” but we have a very positive attitude and we want to play a good game having a good time for us and our supporters”.
Is there a secret recipe to justify such a good start of the season?
“Our coaches gave us precise intructions with regards to serving and blocking during training, in order to obtain a winning binomial from a tactical point of view. Also there is almost an “obsessive” study of the opponent, how they play and how they move”.
Which other team has surprised you the most in this championship?
“I think Cuneo is doing beautiful things. Even though they are not as strong as in previous years on paper, the demonstrated they are a team who will fight for the leadership. In the match they lost against us they probably paid for the trip they took for the European Cup. Finally, I think Treviso is still the top candidate to win the championship.
Despite many people are talking about a crisis, I am sure Treviso will reach their top form at the crucial times of the championship”
