A 2007/2008 SEASONS WITH A LOT OF SACRIFICES: RENOUNCE OF AN EUROPEAN CUP, PLAY OFF SHORTERS

The Boarding Table of Serie A Volleyball League, in a meeting this morning at the Bologna Volleyball League offices, has shown to the Serie A1 Club Council, the indications to program next 2007/2008 season, more complicated because of the Olmpics Qualifications and the new European Cups planning decided by CEV.

After the news, equals the definitive dates provided by CEV, the Clubs have realized that it will be impossible to play a season that may result acceptable for crowd, fans, sponsor, media, without facing huge sacrifices. This despite the brilliant diplomatic mission of the Volleyball League.

Serie A1 has therefore decided to give up and not partecipate to the new European Cup called Challenge Cup and to program the Play Off 2007/2008 with a 2 matches out of 3 for all the rounds (Quarters, Semifinals and Finals at the best of 3 matches). This will give the the chance to the League to still organize the Coppa Italia and build a regular season that in anycase will give problems to the health of the athletes that will participate to the others European Cups.

The program will be available only after that the program of the Olympics qualifications, scheduled in Germany and Portugal, will be confirmed for the end of May 2008 and not before.

Serie A1 TIM 2007/2008 will begin on the 23rd of September and will end on the 15th of May. Serie A2 TIM will of course have an easier path.
