CORIGLIANO – A match based on balance. In the first set coach Giuliani introduces Biribanti from the very first point, even though the diagonal player was not very well with his stomack. Ravellino and Aleskiev were not available either; Maric starts from the bench with a painfuk shoulder. Antoveneta starts with Perazzolo diagonal player with Esko setter; ex Cico De Marchi on the bench, applauded by Corigliano’s supporters.

With regards to the match, neither of the teams gets to take off getting to 22-22 head to head. Then Kovacevic cannot take care of a serve from Bontje and Padova closes 25-22. In the second set Padova makes more mistakes serving, even though they  take advantage of Diaz and Plateniks’s good form. Giuliani calls Biribanti back to the bench and puts Maric in in zone 2. In the end Corigliano has the better of Padova closing 25-23. The third set has fireworks: it is head to head until 23-24 when Padova has 8 setballs to close it. they do not take advantage of that though and Corigliano, thanks to Raymaekers’ blocking and Kovacevic’s precise attacking, manage to close at the third setball on 36-34. The fourth set is signed by Padova. Corigliano has no energy and for the first time they stay 4 or 5 points behind. On 20-23 Podrascanin blocks Perazzolo, but the diagonal player spikes powerfully from zone two and takes the match to tie break.

In the 5th set Padova goes on 8-7, Corigliano does well with Kovacevic blocking Perazzolo (6-6) and Podrascanin  De Togni (7-7). Then Padova finds the right break and goes on 9-13 with a pipe from Platenik and a block from Bontje on Raymaekers. diaz closes the match for Padova with a nice pipe from zone 6.

Alberto Giuliani (Famigliulo Corigliano): “In the last two sets our service made a negative difference, we made a series of mistakes that penalised us. I have seen some improvements anyway but you can tell we are not at ease yet when we need to manage delicate moments with a good service”.

Bruno Bagnoli (Antonveneta Padova): “We deserved to win for how we managed the 4th and 5th set. In the first 3 sets Corigliano surprised us though, both with their service and attacking. We are happy about this victory, there is satisfaction with two points taken home”.

MVP: Lorenzo Perazzolo (Antonveneta Padova)

MODENA – At Modena’s PalaPanini, for the 9th round of the Serie A1, and after a battle that lasted more than two hours, Cimone conquered the victory against Montichiari.

A success the home team had to work hard to achieve, arriving only at tie break.

The Starting Six are the ones previously announced with Ricardinho-Nascimento, Tencati-Heller, Murilo-Dennis for Modena (Rinaldi still out due to injury, Cristian Casoli wore the Spiderman shirt) and Tiberti-Gavotto, Howard-Sala, Veres-Popp, Manià libero fro Velasco’s team.

A balanced match from the beginning with Cimone able to gain two or three points. The new asset in the back keeps the percentages very high with 94% (72% perf.) and Ricardinho can feed his attackers like he only knows how.

16-12 in teh second TTO, Cimone closes the set on 25-21.

Same story in the second set. Heller and Nascimento attack with efficacy, especially the Brasilian diagonal player who will close the set with a 5 out of 5 in attack.

Modena rules and the 2-0 arrives with the 25-22 score. Velasco mixes things up and at the beginning of the third set Montichiari starts with Ahmed setter for Tiberti and Bojovic spiker for Popp. The substitutions give a new life to Acqua Paradiso. Gavotto confirm his fame as a bomber. The team resurrects around him.

They build a recovery going head to head. First they win the third set on 25-22 then the fourth one on 25-23. Modena seems to have lost it. The tie break starts with two novelties for the yellow&blue: Sidao for Tencati and everlasting Sartoretti for Nascimento.

Cimone flies to 6-2. Velasco’s team does not give up though. First they go on 7-7 then on 8-7. It is head to head. Until the end. Sartoretti gives Modena the final match ball that Dennis, with an ace on that touches the net transforms on to 21-19.

On wednesday the 12th, Cimone Volley will play in the third round, first leg of the Challenge Cup in hungary against Keckemet, while on sunday the 16th, the Yello&blue are playing in Perugia for the 10th round of the Serie A1. Acqua Paradiso Montichiari will play on sunday against Corigliano.

Andrea Giani (Cimone Volley): “The main thing is that we won, we will look at the standing at the end of the first leg. We certainly have to improve the continuity of our game, we always neet to be at the top of our concentration because the opponents don’t give anything away”.

Julio Velasco (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “Scoring a point in Modena is important. I am happy about the boys’ performance who never gave up and even on 2-0 they showed great attitude. Bojovic? I am very happy about his performance, as a diagonal player he is becoming a great spiker”.

MVP: Murilo (Cimone Volley)

RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia – Lube Banca Marche Macerata 0-3 (20-25; 15-25; 16-25)

RPA – LuigiBacchi.it Perugia: Kovacevic 5, Tuerlinckx 4, Serafini, Pochini (L), Sintini 5, Kromm 4, Di Franco 5, Nemec 7, Pippi (L), Vujevic 4, Stokr 4. Non entrati Proper, Braga. Coach Francesco Dall’Olio.

Lube Banca Marche Macerata: Lebl 8, Smerilli (L), Paparoni 10, Vermiglio 2, Bartoletti, Monopoli, Geric 9, Corsano (L), Omrcen 16, Swiderski 7. Non entrati Snippe, Saraceni. Coach Ferdinando De Giorgi.

Arbitri: Giampiero Perri, Stefano Cesare

NOTES – Spectators 2200, takings 5400, set length: 24’, 23’, 23’; tot 70’.

PERUGIA – RPALuigiBacchi.it potpones its appointment with victory again and for the thirteenth time out of thirteen gets defeated by Lube Banca Marche Macerata. (without Rodrigao who went back to Brasil for personal reason, in agreement with the Club): 3-0. Technically too unbalanced with Perugia having to play without its best men Jan Stokr.

Macerata gets the first break and after the first TTO goes on 12-7 thanks to Geric serves. Perugia does not give up (17-15, 20-22) but Lube has the better of them in the end. Kovacevic for Kromm and Tuerlinckx for Stokr do not make any difference and Macerata closes on 25-20.

In the second set Perugia starts again with Kovacevic in the starting six, makes up a few points after being left behind and forces De Giorgi to chnge his setter: Monopoli in, Vermiglio out. It looks like  a good move because from then on Lube takes control of the game, but reality is that the guest team is helped by Jan Stokr bad shape (12%), who gets replaced again. The White&red give up, all of them, to systematic mistakes: 15-25.

In the third set RPA-LuigiBacchi.it still tries to change its skin. Kromm goes back in for Kovacevic and Tuerlinckx for Stork. While Vermiglio is setting the ball again for Lube. Teh story does not change though, 2-0 dowm, Perugia (Kromm and Kovacevic on and off) has no strength to get up again and Macertat takes advantage taking home the whole of the jackpot.

Sebastian Swiderski (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It was nice to play here again, saying hi to many friends, but it was not a good match. I do not know why Perugia was so tense, we prepared the match well and we are satisfied anyway”.

Cristiano Camardese (Ass Coach  Rpa – LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We have not even tried to win it. It is our fault and now we need to work hard”.

MVP: Andrija Geric (Lube Banca Marche Macerata)

Sparkling Milano – Andreoli Latina 3-0 (25-21; 25-20; 25-20)

Andreoli Latina: Tomassetti, Mattera 2, Cardona 7, Barbareschi, Salmon 9, Zanuto Iorio 12, Messana (L), Garcia Pires Ribeiro 4, Alves Bernardo 13. Non entrati Zaytsev, Moretti, Scuderi. Coach Flavio Gulinelli.

Refs: Sandro La Micela, Roberto Boris

NOTES – Spectators 1800, set lentgh: 24’, 27’, 25’, tot 76’.

MILANO – Third consecutive victory for Sparkling Milano that deal with Andreoli Latina with a net 3-0. Diagonal player giombini MVP, preferred to Ricci and Gardner – back fro the US – that gives his coach a performance to be frames with 17 points (64% in attack without mistakes). Well done Millar closing on 7 with 100% in attack. Good setting by Travica who showed a varied attack.

Sparkling goes on 17-14 in the first set with Martino’s block and when Millar blocks Gilson for 19-16, Gulinelli calls the first TO, but Martino blocks the diagonal player again and they go on 20-16. Samica puts the ball down for 24-20 and Zanuto gets a wrong serve for the final 25-21.

Latina’s reaction arrives in the second set and they go on 4-8 taking advantage of Sparkling lower performance, who then come back with Giombini (ace on 12-11) and takes off with Millar’s block on Salmon and an ace from Martino worth the 15-12. Milano flies on enthusiasm with Sapirani and Travica who scores an ace for 19-14, with Gulinelli stopping the game. The Black&Silver are unstoppable though with Martino scoring the 21-15, the guests come back (22-19) but a fantastic Giombini freezes the set scoring the 23-19 and the 14-19. The sets ends on 25-20 with Gibson’s wrong serve.

Third set with Latina ahead again (7-9), but Sparkling comes back with 3 blocks in a row by Giombini, Millar and Martino for 10-9. Travica with an ace and Samica with a hands touch take Sparkling on +3 (18-15). Samica’s pipe  and Millar’s attack close the match taking joy to PalaLido.

Daniele Ricci (Sparkling Milano): “I never expected a 3-0 victory but we have done everything to be ready for this especially psycologically. I do not know if we managed to do that; it was a difficult match, but I believe we prepared well for it. The whole group was back training together only in the past few days. I expected alonger match and more mistakes from us, but fortunately we have been able to give continuity to the game. It was not a high level volleyball, but an essential one. Gardner? I kept him out, but when he came back from Japan he seemd to be in good shape so he was available. It was right for Giombini to play because he trained for 40 days and I do not think it would have been good for his morale to leave him on the bench. I think we can grow further”.

Flavio Gulinelli (Andreoli Latina): “I expected more from the team, Mattera’s performance is the only one worth aknowledging, for the rest we need to grow in continuity”.

MVP: Leondino Giombini (Sparkling Milano)

Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo – Sisley Treviso 3-0 (26-24; 25-19; 25-19)

Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo: Wijsmans 18, Gonzalez 5, Fortunato 8, Vergnaghi (L), Lasko 12, Rosso 2, Abbadi 7, Muraguti Yared, Felizardo 4. Non entrati Parodi, Curti, Battilotti. Coach Silvano Prandi.

Sisley Treviso: Horstink 9, Novotny 7, Hubner 8, Papi 4, Farina (L), Kral, Saitta 1, Endres 6, Pujol, Cisolla 5, Maruotti. Non entrati Ricci Petitoni. Coach Renan Dal Zotto.

Refs: Roberto Locatelli, Paolo Barbero

NOTES – Spectators 4600, takings 23000, set length: 26’, 23’, 22’ tot 71’.

CUNEO – In front of 4615 spectators, Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo beats the Italian Champions of Sisley Treviso for 3-0, keeping the leadership. Their victory is the result of a great team’s performance, especially with their blocking that scored 10 points in three sets.

Alessandro Fei was not playing for Sisley though, in Treviso with Chicken pox.

Without the International player, Dal Zotto plays with Novotny, the only novelty for Treviso. Prandi, on the other side, prefers Abbadi to young Parodi.

Treviso starts with lucidity in attack, conquering 2 extra points before the first TTO (8-6), BreBanca Lannutti’s reaction does not wait to come and the second part of the set becomes more exiting. On 17-17, the home team gets a break and lead thanks to Lasko and Fortunato’s blocks. Gustavo tries to keep his team floating but Cuneo wins 26-24.

BreBanca Lannutti grabs the applauses at the beginning of the second set. The lead 5-2 then 8-3. On 11-4 Dal Zotto puts Hortink in for Novotny; the dutch man puts two balls down straight away (11-6) . Cuneo keep marching though and wins 25-19.

In the third set, Dal Zotto changes things around. Cisolla diagonal, Hortink spiker. Cuneo flies on to 12-6. Treviso changes the diagonal with Novotny and Saitta. Wijsmans signs another ace (21-16) then two consecutive blocks launch BreBanca Lannutti to 23-16 and with the whole Palasport standing they close the match on 25-19.

Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “During the break we worked a lot while Treviso had many of his players away with their national teams. That was not the usual Sisley which certainly helped us. Teh key to the match was winning the first sete, I am happy because we all played a good match, if we carry on like that we can do good things”.

Alberto Cisolla (Sisley Treviso): “This was the worst time to face BreBanca Lannutti. They were able to train during the break while we were not. This is not an excuse but whoever faced today’s Cuneo needed to give a lot more”.

MVP: Abbadi Manius (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo)
