There was someone considering the Cup a secondary target (Coach Di Pinto), and someone considering it very important (president Bongiovanni), and there was someone in a middle position, as the spiker Maurizio Castellano who says: “For me it is a lost occasion to which one can’t go back, being it a tie cup. It was not a secondary goal, it was a goal with its own inedependence. There is no alibi, we were excluded from an important competition which we wanted to win. You want to know if the defeat against Pianeto will have an effect on our chapionship? I think it won’t”.
Is there a reason for this exclusion?
“Pineto is a team that always gave us troubles. It did even in the first half’s match, when Shittu was not there yet. They have peculiarities we don’t really digest; they were always able, against us, to find out a new game tactic to give us trouble. It is not always the same players playing good, but a couple of them, and I mean the middle blocker Barrelli and the spiker Baldasseroni disputed a really high-level competition. We played good as well, we were better than them in blocks and servings, about pass the datas are equal, so we maybe failed in attacking in the crucial moments”.
You made many mistakes in serving. Why?
“Teams mistakes are more or less the same, we made 22 and they made 21. I tried to play a more tactical serving, a shorter one to give them touble. In every match one has to make choices, some of them lead to success, some other not. I think the worst mistakes we made were in other moments of the match”.
Were you a bit more nervous than usual?
“We were maybe a bit nervous because the arena and the field were not so big, and we understood immediately we would have had troubles. Pineto was maybe at ease because the court where it usually plays is very similar to that. But this is no alibi. We lost because we couldn’t find the right tactic against that opponent. We are maybe not yet mature enough to stand such matches”.
