CALZEDONIA VERONA – PARMAREGGIO MODENA 0-3 (23-25, 21-25, 17-25)
CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 7, Coscione 1, Pesaresi (L), Gitto, Gasparini 12, Deroo 8, White 2, Bellei, Sander 7, Anzani 9. DNP Blasi, Centomo, Borgogno. Coach. Giani.
PARMAREGGIO MODENA: Mossa De Rezende, Petric 12, Boninfante, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 19, Piano 5, Verhees 9, Kovacevic, Vettori 12. DNP Donadio, Sala, Casadei. Coach. Lorenzetti.
In front of a sold-out crowd, Modena came away from Verona with a 3-0 victory. Lorenzetti’s men stopped a two-game losing streak and go momentarily top of the table as Trento will play on Wednesday. As for Giani’s men, this is their second defeat in a row, which means they are certain to finish fifth. The game was played at a high level, the first two sets were very tight while Verona struggled in the third with a low 34% in attack. Mvp Bruno.
Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Parmareggio Modena): “Verona was demoralized in the third set having lost the second by the minimum margin the previous one. It’s been a good game, we were a bit tense while Verona has not been as brilliant as in other outings. One rally can make the difference, this is the story of volleyball”.
Andrea Giani (Coach Calzedonia Verona): “The first set was tight and decided on couple of rallies. But it was good and intense, just like the second in which we hanged on till 20. But then they proved they wanted it a little more than us. We served well and made it hard for them but they played well, we struggled on our first reception, and conceded a few breaks too many. Then you have to play right until the end, until the last ball drops on the floor. We gave up a bit too easily and I didn’t like that”.
SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-19) – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti, Fromm 13, De Cecco 5, Giovi (L), Barone 7, Beretta 5, Vujevic 5, Atanasijevic 12, Fanuli (L), Sunder, Maruotti. DNP Paolucci, Tzioumakas. Coach. Grbic.
ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO: Franceschini, Teppan, Dolfo, Kaszap 1, Tosi (L), Della Lunga 8, Aganits 8, Maric 10, Randazzo 5, Mazzone 6. DNP Lensi, Corvetta, Baroti. Coach. Polidori.
The derby from the Umbria region goes to Perugia. The Block Devils deservedly won, they were accurate and were especially effective on the serve (4 aces). The MVP Atanasijevic and Fromm were at their usual standards in attack but the Argentine setter De Cecco (5 points with 4 blocks) used the middle with consistency, especially with Barone (70%). Castello made too many mistakes, 28 in three sets. Maric was the only one doing the job on high balls, while Aganits had an interesting performance with 8 points (100% in attack, 3 blocks). Thanks to this win, Perugia locks up fourth place and will have the home court advantage in the playoffs quarter-final series.
Goran Vujevic (Sir Safety Perugia): “There were two teams with different targets on court. We had the playoffs in mind and Città di Castello didn’t and I think that has its influence on the work done during the week. Anyway, we did our part and obtained the fourth place which was our goal. Now we’ll start working to be ready for the playoffs”.
Goran Maric (Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro): “Unfortunately, it’s been all one-way traffic. We showed flashes of good volleyball, but we are far from our best. On the other hand, Perugia is working for the playoffs and played excellent volleyball”.
CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-16) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Fei 1, Parodi 5, Paparoni (L), Stankovic 8, Sabbi 14, Monopoli, Garcia 1, Kurek 13, Podrascanin 12. DNP Henno, Kovar, Shumov. Coach. Giuliani.
EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 4, Noda Blanco 7, Sket 3, Del Vecchio 2, Spirito, Romiti (L), Bossi 5, Hierrezuelo 1, Torres 11, Piscopo 1. DNP Michelucci Moralez, Blagojevic, Porcelli. Coach. Di Pinto.
The Italian champions have tied their club record of ten consecutive wins established last season by defeating Molfetta 3-0. This was the first start for newcomer Ricardinho. This was a big win as Treia stays tied with Modena on top, but Trento could regain first place when they play their postponed game on Wednesday. In any way, Treia will have at least a chance to play for second place in the last round next Sunday. MVP Podrascanin
Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche): “Ricardo is settling in faster than expected. He’s already doing well in just one week of training. I’m very happy, now we just need him to keep making progress. Since he arrived, I have one more reason not to sleep at night, I have to choose who to leave out, and Nat has played excellent volleyball in the previous games. The group looked confident, we did not make many mistakes. For us the playoffs already started since the game against Perugia, then Latina, and today Molfetta. It’s better to have difficult games before the in-or-out games begin. The fixture list went like that for us and we’re dealing with this phase quite well”.
Marco Cosimo Piscopo (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “We played against a team firing on all cylinders. They showed all their quality and made very few mistakes. They played excellent volleyball in attack, and did a great job at the net. We could have done a little better, but let’s not worry too much and try to bounce back next Sunday against Perugia. We’re working hard to be in the best possible shape for the coming games”.
REVIVRE MILANO – COPRA PIACENZA 0-3 (13-25, 28-30, 17-25)
REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 5, Bermudez 3, Cerbo, Patriarca 8, Rizzo (L), Mattera 1, De Togni, Dos Santos 10, Veres 10, Preti, Valsecchi 5. DNP Kauliakamoa Jr. Coach. Maranesi.
COPRA PIACENZA: Marra (L), Poey 18, Papi, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari 10, Zlatanov 14, Ostapenko, Tencati 3, Kohut 11, Rodrigues Tavares 2. DNP Alletti, Ter Horst, Meoni. Coach. Camperi.
Piacenza played with pride following its defeat against Padova, which sent them out of the playoffs. They swept Milan on their home floor with dominating performances in the first and third set, while six set points were needed to seal the second set. Poey scored 18 points and was named MVP, and Zlatanov added 14 points.
Marco Maranesi (coach Revivre Milano): “In the first set, in spite of a better reception, we struggled to score points. This is a situation that occurred quite a few times this season. The second set was tight but in the end we have not been very lucky, with key rallies decided on a couple of inches. We got off to a good start in the third set, but then we got stuck and Piacenza escaped”.
Davide Marra (Copra Piacenza): “We wanted to end the season with good performances and today we played well in every area of the game. We did a good job of maintaining a high level of play. The serve went very well and the dig-block area made the difference”.
TONAZZO PADOVA – TOP VOLLEY LATINA 0-3 (24-26, 19-25, 20-25)
TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 5, Orduna 3, Giannotti 17, Balaso (L), Gozzo, Rosso 8, Volpato 4, Garghella, Milan 2, Quiroga 10. DNP Vianello, Aguillard, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.
TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 10, Sottile 2, Ferenciac, Tailli, Van De Voorde 11, Rossi 6, Starovic 14, Urnaut 15. DNP Skrimov, Davis. Coach. Blengini.
In its last game of the regular season, Latina came back from Padova with a straight set victory. A result which will have no influence on the league table for Latina who was already certain to finish 6th but that was still an important one for Padova, who needs to keep Milan and Città di Castello behind.
There was an interesting match-up between the second and third of the scoring chart: the Februay MVP Giannotti and Sasha Starovic. MVP: Tine Urnaut (Top Volley Latina)
Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “Latina played extremely well, they did not miss much and kept a high rhythm throughout. We did not play too bad, but they were better than us at the net and in attack, which is why they deserved to win. Shame because except for the start of the first set, we have always managed to keep it tight”.
Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Top Volley Latina): “I was curious to see how to boys would have played this game. We knew the result would not have changed anything for us in the table. This is why I thought this would be one of the toughest games of the season. Besides, Padova plays excellent volleyball. But it turns out to be a very important outing as we prepare for the playoffs, because we have shown great character”.
