The Preliminary Phase of the Volleyball Nations League concluded with the victories against Bulgaria and Turkey and the knockouts against Poland and Slovenia, with the Italian national team now preparing for the Finals scheduled in Lodz, Poland, from 27 to 30 June. By virtue of third place in the VNL rankings, France (sixth place) will be Italy’s opponent in the Quarter Finals on Friday 28 June at 5pm.

Technical Commissioner Ferdinando De Giorgi has called up 14 athletes for this commitment, while 8 of the veterans from the first two weeks of VNL (i.e. Simone Giannelli, Roberto Russo, Gianluca Galassi, Fabio Balaso, Simone Anzani, Alessandro Michieletto, Daniele Lavia and Yuri Romanò) , after two weeks of rest, they will resume physical work in Cavalese from 25 June to 1 July in view of the start of preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The 14 players called up for the VNL Finals will move today from Slovenia to Poland with a flight from Ljubljana to Warsaw, and then move to Lodz. The return is scheduled for the day following the last match played.

While waiting for the Volleyball Nations League Finals, the Italian national team is also preparing for what will be the second summer event, i.e. the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Italy finished the qualification in fourth position in the world ranking with 352.33 points.

The draw for the composition of the three Groups, with the twelve qualified national teams who will be drawn into one of the three Pools based on their placement in the World Ranking. France will be the hosts together with Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Japan, Italy, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, USA to take part in the five-circle event scheduled in Paris from 27 July to 11 August.

France, seventh in the ranking but host country, therefore number 1 seed, will be assigned to Pool A, while Poland, first ranked in the world ranking, and Japan, second, will be included respectively in Pools B and C, as seeded number 2 and 3. The remaining nine national teams will be divided as follows, again based on their position in the WR, into three groups of three teams each: Slovenia, Italy and USA (3rd-4th-5th), Brazil , Argentina and Canada (6th-8th-9th), Serbia, Germany and Egypt (10th-11th-19th) and for each group a draw will be carried out which will decide which group it belongs to.
