The Final Eight of the Del Monte® Boy League for the very young players of Sir Susa Vim Perugia ended with a splendid fifth place finish.
In the competition reserved for under 14 athletes organized by the Serie A Volleyball League and reserved for the Serie A youth sectors held in Fano from Friday to Sunday, coach Moscioni’s little Block Devils play great in the presence of the elite at national level for the category.
After having conquered one of the eight places for the event in the preliminary phase last April played at the PalaSir in Santa Maria degli Angeli, the little Bianconeri finished in third place in group F which also included Emmeti Clima Modena Volley, Gamma Chimica Brugherio and Pallavolo Padova while Group E included Consar Ravenna, Cucine Lube Civitanova, Itas Trentino and Puliservice Acqua S. Bernardo Cuneo.
Debut with victory on Friday afternoon against Modena for the Block Devils who won 2-1 (partials of 25-21, 25-18, 19-25). Yesterday morning in the second match against Brugherio, one of the favorites of the competition, the boys played with quality and determination, leaving the field with a narrow 1-2 defeat (partials of 15-25, 25-16, 17-25). On Saturday afternoon, the decisive match against Padova for the passage to the semi-final sees Sir Susa Vim Perugia once again protagonist of an important match against another top-ranking opponent. The first two partials are always played on the edge of balance with the Bianconeri also missing some opportunities to close and losing 26-28 and 25-27. In the third set, with the result now secured, Padova prevailed 9-25.
Third place in the group therefore takes the young Block Devils to this morning’s final against Ravenna for fifth place. And once again an excellent match comes from the boys who go down after a hard fought first set (23-25), but they don’t give up and the reaction leads to a 2-1 victory in the next two sets (25-20 and 15-7 in the final partial) with the party going crazy in the Perugia half of the court.
