A new Devil in the Superlega is Andrea Innocenzi and he is not just any Devil but the captain of the A3 team from Brugherio. The 203-centimetre middle blocker, born in Segrate on 6 October 2000, completes the “three-seater” department of president Lucio Fusaro’s team. For Andrea, who has lived in the Diavoli Rosa for almost his entire career, from Serie D in 2017/2018 to the last season of Serie A3 Credem Banca, it is actually a return to his hometown team. Here is the first interview of the new centre-back who will soon be under the orders of coach Roberto Piazza.
Welcome to Allianz Milano, Andrea. What prompted you to accept this new challenge?
After fantastic years spent in the Diavoli I felt the need to change and have further stimuli, so when I learned of the possibility of Milan, I didn’t think twice and accepted this new challenge. For me it is more than a dream to be part of a Superlega team, moreover in the team of my city.
In reality it is a return for you, with coach Giani in the 2018/19 season you had already been aggregated to the first team at a very young age. What memories do you have of that experience?
In that season, due to an injury to Matteo Piano, I was added to the first team for a few months. It was a fantastic experience, where I was able to breathe a little the environment of a great team. I was impressed by the great welcome I received from the whole team, which I didn’t expect for a “latest arrival”.
Tell us something about the private Andrea Innocenzi, studies, passions, nicknames…
Since I was a child, everyone has always called me Anthem, so when they call me by name it always sounds a little strange to me. Besides playing volleyball, I’m studying Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano (third year); a very demanding faculty, but one that fascinates me. I like sport in general, but especially football, as I have been playing it for 11 years. My favorite team is Roma. I also really like listening to music.
