Umberto Caleca is a new white-blue setter. Last arrival at ABBA Pineto Volley. The very young setter born in 2001 marries to the court of coach Tomasello to play his cards in the Serie A3 Credem Banca championship.
Born in Marsala in 2001, he grew up in Serie C, Serie B and A3 wearing different jerseys, up to the call-up in A1 with the shirt of Blu Volley Calzedonia. Umberto Caleca is a young student from Marsala, enrolled in economics at the University of Verona where thanks to his sports curriculum he was able to access the “Academic Coach” program for student athletes of excellence, which favors a dual sporting and university career. For the setter, volleyball is a passion loved in the family, supported by its 197 centimeters in height and a happy touch of the hand that makes it a promising setter. A long journey that began at a very young age at 8 with the S3 projects in the province of Messina and continued in Marsala Olimpiakos and Mazara with the youth championships. In Arezzo he confirmed his talent, in the Tuscan Serie C championship, where he moved from Marsala at the age of 16 to play in Mr. Caleri’s Volleyball Arezzo and to attend the prestigious international high school “Quarto Anno a Rondine”. After the collegiate with the National Juniores in Vigna di Valle in July 2018, he was included in the list of the first Italian setters of the Pre Juniores. Training experience in Ravenna in Serie C, with the Porto Robur Costa of Marco Bonitta, former coach of the Italian national team, giving up the tantalizing call of the Italian champion Sir Perugia of the sporting director Goran Vujevic. Another important stage was the final of the Anderlini International Trophy played with the Ravenna team, in December 2018 in front of 5,000 people, in the Pala Panini in Modena. Subsequently from Ravenna to Verona for the 2019/2020 season to then receive the call from mister Bruno Bagnoli technical director of the youth sector of Blu Volley Verona in SuperLega. Umberto already knows the A3 championship, having worn the Modica Volleyball jersey in the 2021/2022 season, gaining access to the playoffs in the first round.
