Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia – Azimut Modena 0-3 (21-25, 21-25, 23-25)
Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia: Coscione 4, Geiler 8, Costa 8, Michalovic 15, Barreto Silva 2, Barone 4, Torchia (L), Marra (L), Alves Soares 3, Izzo 1, Diamantini 2, Rejlek 2. DNP. Corrado, Maccarone. Coach. Kantor. Azimut Modena: Orduna 0, Ngapeth E. 13, Holt 7, Vettori 14, Petric 14, Le Roux 8, Rossini (L), Massari 0, Piano 0. DNP. Cook, Salsi, Ngapeth S., Onwuelo. Coach. Piazza.
Modena had lost its last two visits in Vibo Valentia but this time they’ll go home with a straight set victory. Modena dominated the first two sets thanks to some excellent attacking play, be that through the middle with Holt and Le Roux or with the trio of high balls hitters (Vettori ended with 55% and Ngapeth 50%). Vibo proved more agressive on the break and serve in the third set (7 total aces, 4 for Coscione) but Modena still snatched it on a Michalovic serve mistakes. Highlight of this set, an impossible dig saved by Petric with his foot which Ngapeth converted with a brilliant play of his own. MVP Nemanja Petric (Azimut Modena)
Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We had some good spells in all three sets but Modena is a team from the top part of the table and they deserve to be there. We wasted the very few opportunities they conceded us but this is the level of the SuperLega for you. On the counter we can learn to deal better with certain situations. In order to surprise them, you have to come up with something different ».
Nemanja Petric (Azimut Modena): “Vibo is a tough place to win and that’s a crucial one for us. We’ve been focused and agressive with our serve. Now we have to become more consistent and maintain this level of play because we have an intense week coming with league and Champions League. On Sunday, it will be another battle at home against Perugia ».
Sir Safety Conad Perugia – Diatec Trentino 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-22)
Sir Safety Conad Perugia: De Cecco 3, Zaytsev 9, Podrascanin 6, Atanasijevic 16, Russell 2, Buti 3, Bari (L), Tosi (L), Birarelli 0, Berger 5. DNP. Della Lunga, Chernokozhev, Mitic, Franceschini. Coach. Bernardi.
Diatec Trentino: Giannelli 2, Urnaut 4, Solé 7, Stokr 12, Lanza 5, Van De Voorde 3, Chiappa (L), Antonov 1, Blasi 0, Nelli 2, Colaci (L). DNP. Mazzone T., Mazzone D., Burgsthaler. Coach. Lorenzetti.
The four throusand fans are all back with a smile in the PalaEvangelisti arena as Perugia bounced back from its Italian Cup ousting with a 3-0 win over Trento in the big match of the day. Thanks to this win, Bernardi’s men move above Trento in the table in second place. President Sirci and coach Bernardi exulted at the end of the encounter. The group responded with character, with clever and competitive play. They used their favourite weapons, the serve, dig-block department and the counter. Podrascanini couldn’t miss, Atanasijevic was superb (68%, 16 points), while the MVP was Alexander Berger, who was sent on at the start of the second set. The Austrian spiker brought balance to the Perugia reception and found an incredible run of serves who got the crowd on its feet.
Luciano De Cecco (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We needed a win like that. We’re disappointed not to go to Bologna because we really wanted to do well in the Italian Cup. Today we played better, we’ve been more agressive and focused. Trento made a few mistakes too many on the serve, but credit to us for winning the long rallies. We’re delighted but tomorrow we’ll get back in the gym to prepare for another important game on Wednesday against Belgorod ».
Massimo Colaci (Diatec Trentino): “A 3-0 score, Perugia deserves it. The serve made the difference, and the break. We did not serve well, we made so many mistakes and rarely made it hard for them, and once they have the ball in their hands, they are tough to stop. They served brilliantly, they forced us to play high balls very often. And against these blockers, it all becomes more complicated. It’s not the end of the world to lose in Perugia, it can happen, let’s focus on what’s coming ».
Biosì Indexa Sora – Calzedonia Verona 1-3 (21-25, 24-26, 25-18, 23-25)
Biosì Indexa Sora: Seganov 5, Kalinin 2, Gotsev 9, Miskevich 18, Rosso 14, Sperandio 8, Santucci (L), Marrazzo 0, De Marchi 7. DNP. Tiozzo, Corsetti, Lucarelli, Mauti. Coach. Bagnoli.
Calzedonia Verona: Baranowicz 2, Kovacevic 14, Anzani 8, Djuric 16, Ferreira 12, Zingel 7, Frigo (L), Giovi (L), Stern 5, Lecat 2, Randazzo 1, Paolucci 0. DNP. Mengozzi. Coach. Grbic.
The Flu turns protagonist in this early 2017 in the PalaGlobo arena as Sora had no less than five starters hit by the virus. Tiozzo stayed home, libero Santucci had little energy left and had to come out at the start of the third. In spite of all this, it remained a competitive encounter that Verona eventually won. Big applause for the MVP Simone Anzani, while Miskevich scored 18 points.
Bruno Bagnoli (Coach BioSì Indexa Sora): “We remained dry in spite of finishing with as many points as our opponents after two hours of play. We really struggle to convert our opportunities, this is definitely an area we have to improve on. We cannot keep giving away sets like we do ».
Nikola Grbic (Coach Calzedonia Verona): “We have been focused and agressive for two sets. We executed the simple things. Then we stopped doing it and waited for the game to end. But this is the SuperLega and all the teams have what it takes to play good volleyball. We ran the risk of going to the tie-break and losing the game. This has to serve as lesson for us ».
Revivre Milano – LPR Piacenza 1-3 (24-26, 26-24, 23-25, 19-25)
Revivre Milano: Sbertoli 1, Hoag 11, De Togni 7, Starovic 8, Skrimov 12, Galassi 13, Rudi (L), Galaverna 4, Cortina (L), Marretta 0, Tondo 0. DNP. Boninfante. Coach. Monti.
LPR Piacenza: Hierrezuelo 9, Clevenot 17, Alletti 9, Hernandez Ramos 21, Marshall 20, Tencati 5, Parodi 0, Yosifov 1, Tzioumakas 0, Manià (L), Cottarelli 0. DNP. Zlatanov, Papi, Di Martino. Coach. Giuliani.
Milan did not make it easy for Piacenza but the visitors came away from Busto Arsizio with the derby on a 3-1 score. The first three sets finished with the minimum margin and the fourth was a real battle too in spite of the bigger margin. Piacenza looked extremely solid as a team, especially at the net. Piacenza had no less than 19 blocks (5 for Alletti). Leonel Marshall scored 20 points at 50% (4 blocks) and was named MVP.
Giorgio De Togni (Revivre Milano): “Another defeat for us but this one was much different that the last three. We wanted to prove we were still alive and I think we did that. But it was not enough to work well only for a week. We have to keep working hard and results will come. We’re disappointed because we lost two sets past the 25-point mark. Taking a point would have done everyone some good, and the fans, coaching staff and club would have deserved it ».
Leonel Marshall (LPR Piacenza): “It’s not been easy to play for us today because when you play a knock-out game like we did against Perugia, you spend a lot of physical and mental energy. Milan played superbly, they kept it tight but I think the win over Perugia helped us win again tonight ».
Top Volley Latina – Gi Group Monza 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-15)
Top Volley Latina: Sottile 4, Maruotti 15, Rossi 6, Fei 15, Klinkenberg 10, Gitto 6, Caccioppola (L), Strugar 0, Fanuli (L), Quintana Guerra 2, Pistolesi 0, Penchev 1, Ishikawa 0. DNP. Coach. Bagnoli.
Gi Group Monza: Jovovic 0, Botto 8, Beretta 3, Hirsch 1, Fromm 3, Verhees 6, Brunetti (L), Rizzo (L), Daldello 0, Vissotto Neves 9, Galliani 0, Dzavoronok 7, Terpin 1. DNP. Coach. Falasca.
In round 19 of the SuperLega, Latina had the better of Monza in straight set. One-way traffic for the hosts who were always ahead in each set. Only in the second could there be seen some sort of reaction from the visitors. The third set was marked by 8 aces. MVP Daniele Sottile (Top Volley Latina)
Daniele Sottile (Top Volley Lattina): “We were confident on the eve of the game because we trained with our full roster, something that had never happened. We got confidence out of the high level seen in training. We should not look at the table but focus on playing like today, then we’ll just see what happens ».
Pieter Verhees (Gi Group Monza): “We played poorly in every area of the game. Congratulations to Latina. Our goal remains the playoffs but we cannot lose points like that on the way ».
Kioene Padova – Cucine Lube Civitanova 1-3 (21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 21-25)
Kioene Padova: Shaw 6, Maar 16, Averill 10, Giannotti 7, Milan 8, Volpato 9, Balaso (L), Bassanello (L). DNP. Zoppellari, Sestan, Fedrizzi, Koncilja, Link. Coach. Baldovin.
Cucine Lube Civitanova: Christenson 3, Juantorena 16, Stankovic 10, Sokolov 18, Cebulj 11, Cester 10, Pesaresi (L), Grebennikov (L), Corvetta 0, Casadei 0, Kovar 2. DNP. Candellaro, Kaliberda. Coach. Blengini.
It’s not been easy for Civitanova but they came away from Padova with the win. The agile setting from Christenson combined with the clutch points from Sokolov and Juantorena gave the league leaders the upper hand even if the hosts appeared more consistent and determined than in recent outings. MVP Micah Christenson (Cucine Lube Civitanova)
Valerio Baldovin (Coach Kioene Padova): “There has been an excellent reaction. We played very well at times but we still make too many silly mistakes. Our challenge from now on will be to try to play at this level all the time no matter who’s on the other side of the net ».
Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Cucine Lube Civitanova): “I expected a tough one. The fact Padova was going through some trouble did not deceive me because I knew they’d make some change and find new energy. We found ti very hard in attack in the second set and we deserved to lose it. In the end what matters are the three points, so we’re happy with the results ».
