Tomorrow, Thursday October 18, Trentino will face the Russians of Kazan in the Wolrd Club Championships semi-finals. Kazan, which has Valerio Vermiglio as setter, finished second of its group while Trentino finished top of its own. This in-or-out encounter is a repeat of 12 months ago when Russians and Italians had fought it out at the same stage of the competition. Trento had won it 3-1 and eventually won the event for the third time running. Kazan had finished third thanks to a 3-2 victory over Belchatow.
“You could say a lot on the match-up between Trento and Kazan – said coach Stoytchev – These are two teams that have meta gain and again in international competitions, fighting for the main trophies. But the truth is that tomorrow, none of the past encounters will matter. The victory is what will matter. The teams that are left are the strongest and that makes the trophy even more prestigious and coveted. We’ll be up against an extremely strong team, which knocked us out of the champions League 3-1 the last time we met them. This will therefore be a very tough game, a long one that will be decided on very few plays. We’ll have to make sure we win those few plays. This will be as always a question of details”.
